Victoria Caroline Beckham (née Adams), born April 17, 1974, in Harlow, Essex, England, is an English designer and former recording artist who shot to fame in the mid-1990s as a member of the record-breaking girl group Spice Girls. She later rebranded and launched a successful line of clothing and accessories.

Growing up, Beckham had a passion for the performing arts, which her parents encouraged by enrolling her in Jason Theatre School at age 8. She later attended Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, Surrey, where she focused on dance and modeling.  Although her parents provided a comfortable upbringing through their successful electronics wholesale business, Beckham felt self-conscious about their affluence, particularly her father driving her to school in a Rolls-Royce.  Before her breakthrough, she held various jobs, including working as a promotional model for the Daily Mirror and at a perfume counter in a department store.

At age 20, Beckham was one of the five young women selected to create the music group Spice Girls. In 1996 the band released its debut album, “Spice,” which included the colossal smash “Wannabe,” as well as other international hits like “Say You’ll Be There” and “2 Become 1.” The album, which sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, made the group a cultural phenomenon. A year later, they released released their second album, “Spiceworld,” also a huge seller, and starred in “Spice World: The Movie.”

After Geri Halliwell's departure from the Spice Girls in 1998, the group continued as a four-piece until their official disbandment in 2001.  Beckham then embarked on a solo music career, signing with Virgin Records. Her debut single, "Out of Your Mind," a collaboration with Dane Bowers and Truesteppers, was released in 2000 and reached No. 2 in the UK. In 2001, she released her self-titled, R&B-tinged debut album. A moderate success, it yielded two Top 10 singles. Beckham continued to work on music throughout the early 2000s, eventually recording two more albums; however, due to label issues, neither album was ever officially released and Beckham, frustrated with the industry, decided to focus on her burgeoning career as a fashion designer.

Beckham made her first foray into fashion in 2004, debuting a line of denim called VB Rocks. Three years later she released collections of sunglasses and jeans, dVb denim, as well as the Intimately Beckham fragrance line. Beckham continued to expand her fashion repertoire, rolling out a well-received dress collection in 2008; a line of handbags in 2011, and a beauty line in 2019. Beckham was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2017 for her services to the fashion industry.

Beyond her professional achievements, Beckham is also known for her marriage to David Beckham, a renowned football (soccer) player. Their high-profile relationship took the world by storm when they first got together in the late 1990s, and, despite some high-profile setbacks, they remain one of the most famous couples in the world.
