Pony Diffusion XL (usually just "Pony") is one of the two foundational anime base-model families on Tensor.Art, alongside Illustrious. Despite the name — a nod to its unusual training heritage — the Pony family became the backbone of a huge share of anime, cartoon and game-character generation on the site, prized for its flexibility and its enormous LoRA ecosystem. Pony models brought two conventions that still shape the platform: score-based quality tokens (score_9, score_8_up, score_7_up) that open most prompts, and strong responsiveness to both natural language and tag-style input. Thousands of character LoRAs — Genshin Impact cast, anime fandoms, OCs — are trained specifically on Pony bases, and merges tuned for aesthetics, realism blends and specific fandoms fill the model shelf. Choosing between Pony and Illustrious? Pony tends to be more stylistically adventurous and better at unusual concepts; Illustrious is crisper on manga lineart and literal tag adherence. Both families' LoRAs are NOT cross-compatible — match the LoRA's base to your checkpoint.
