The softer portrait alternative. My main recommendation for this series is Patina E9, but Muse E5 has a reason to stay.

Try Muse when Poise E7 or Patina E9 repeatedly makes your character look more mature, tired, or severe than you intended, or when you simply prefer a softer, more immediately appealing face.

  • Patina E9: my main pick for stronger presence, maturity, fatigue, and physical wear.

  • Poise E7: the middle option for balanced adult character work.

  • Muse E5: the softer alternative, particularly useful for appealing portraits and some younger-looking white-haired characters.

E5 is an earlier sibling epoch from the same training line, not a reduced-feature version. It retains much of the same subject and medium range.

Base model: KREA2 Turbo

What Muse Does Well

  • Soft window-light portraits and quiet character close-ups.

  • Appealing adult faces with readable facial structure.

  • Character cards and introduction images with clear clothing, accessories, and props.

  • Relatively younger-looking white-haired characters under some age-ambiguous prompts.

  • Formalwear, fantasy clothing, streetwear, and dense ornamental costumes.

  • Two-person scenes and full anthropomorphic characters.

  • Watercolor, ink wash, oil painting, impasto, graphic illustration, and fashion sketch.

In the tested graphic editorial portrait pair, E5 preserved broad color planes and hard shadow shapes more consistently than E7 and E9. This is a useful local strength, rather than proof that it wins every graphic-art prompt.

Muse can also render elderly and visibly exhausted women. Its softer tendency does not erase those capabilities.

Known Weaknesses

  • It is not a reliable de-aging tool. Some early-thirties prompts still produced noticeably older-looking adults, including the age-locked white-haired test.

  • Beautification and familiar attractive faces remain strong tendencies.

  • Fatigue can be softened, even when it is not removed completely.

  • Characters may become more glamorous or revealing than requested.

  • Skin and hands can still develop glossy highlights, particularly in close-ups and artificial lighting.

  • Simplified faces are not always complete. One gouache portrait omitted the eyes.

  • Watercolor, oil, and impasto prompts may preserve a polished, intact face when a looser or more broken interpretation was wanted.

  • Hands, contact points, and proportions still need individual inspection.

Like E7 and E9, Muse did not reliably preserve subtle human-animal hybrid constraints: the tiger-trait prompt became full anthro. It also failed the bound-chest detail in the crime-boss prompt. These are fidelity problems, not merely differences in taste.

When to Choose E5

Muse makes the most sense when you actively prefer its face treatment.

It is worth trying for softer adult portraits, a less worn character introduction, relatively youthful white-haired designs, or clean graphic portrait shapes.

If you want stronger bodily exhaustion, a more weathered presence, or a heavier mood, start with Patina E9 instead. If you want something between the two, try Poise E7.

The difference is not simply "E5 is young, E9 is old." The wording and base model can change that relationship substantially.

Prompting Notes

Use a clear age and physical description, but inspect the output rather than assuming the age wording was followed.

Avoid adding several maturity or fatigue cues if the aim is a lighter treatment. For stylized results, describe the medium's physical behavior instead of relying on a broad style label alone.

If E5 gives you the right face but misses an important prop, garment, or body detail, treat that as a missed requirement rather than a successful prompt.

Tested Settings and Other Bases

The comparison used 66 prompts and 132 images per epoch, with different seeds across epochs. These are observed tendencies, not a controlled win-rate ranking.

  • LoRA weight: 1.0

  • Sampler: Euler

  • Sampling steps: 8

  • CFG scale: 1

  • Resolution: 768 x 1152

  • Trigger word: none used

Weight 1.0 is the tested reference. Feel free to experiment with other strengths.

Muse was trained on KREA2 Turbo, and other KREA2-derived bases can also be explored. Expect the underlying checkpoint to affect skin finish, realism, styling, and medium response. A different base may change which epoch you prefer. :3
