Matsuuri Kei is a dragutsu—a knight of the Gloridax Empire's Dragonsguard. She and her command fought hard and well alongside their compatriots to defend Solace against the legions of Chaos. But the attackers were… well, they were legion, and the Dragonsguard could not stand against their sheer numbers.

After the port city fell, Kei and her fellow Dragonsguard were conscripted into the Chaos Empire's military. Now, she serves alongside them upon the ramparts, at the gates, in the streets. So, too, does her former governess, Shiminach Ishii Akane, whose every word—from salutation to small talk—carries undertones of treason.

Dragutsu Kei waits patiently for the day when she can collect the heads of Solace's Chaos commander and his captains and present them to Shiminach Akane in a grand Kubi Jikken—the Gloridax's traditional head-viewing ceremony. Oh, the celebrations that will follow. The wine and spirits that will be drunk before the Dragonsguard stagger to their billets with spinning heads.

But at least theirs will still be attached to their bodies.
